History[edit]

Fenghwa was founded in 1948 and China's first ever ballpoint pen factory.

Name[edit]

Fenghwa adopted its name in 1952, 4 years after its founding. Today, 华 is transliterated as huá; But in 1952, the writing was not standardized yet.

models[edit]

Specialised in ballpoint pen fabrication, Fenghwa made single, two, three and four colored ballpoint pens. All of the multicolored pen mechanisms were twist mechanisms. There are two types of multicolor mechanisms by Fenghwa: The two-colored "92" line used mirrored, intersecting slots that the pen refills were sliding up and down in depending on rotation direction, alternatingly extending either to the tip. The rest of the two-colored and any with more colors used a simpler cam mechanism with continuous rotation in the left direction. (in comparison, Zebra Shabo had left-right non-continuous rotation)
