The Staedtler 771 mechanical pencil is made in Japan and using 1.3mm leads. It was first presented at Paperworld in January, 2008. The pencil commenced sales in Germany in May, 2008.[1]

In Japan, the 771 continued, and was joined in Fall 2014 by a white and black version, the 771-0. Both versions continue to be offered in Japan.[1]

The Staedtler 760 is another Staedtler pencil using 1.3mm leads. was discontinued by the end of 2012 and the 771 by the end of 2013. The erasers for these pencils were different. The one for the 771 was not available officially but only on request (Staedtler Japan offers it with the item number 77R57). The replacement eraser for the 760 was offered with the item number 77R60 and discontinued by the end of 2013.
