Description
This campaign is to raise funds for hardcover notebooks centered around elements from the Periodic elements. The notebooks have many science-minded features and callouts, including notebooks for particular elements (such as Carbon, Oxygen, and Nitrogen), a periodic table and Bohr model on the inside cover, and the paper edging has the particular elements' emission spectrum graph printed on the edge[1].
Stretch goals listed allow for different innard printings (dot grid, blank, etc), as well as additional element-specific notebooks to be included in the initial printing.
The campaign hit their funding goal on February 11 with over 300 backers[2].
After overwhelming feedback from current backers, the campaign runners opened the option to add the memobook-size "Unobtainium" notebooks as add-on products to current awards[3]. This was instead of having that product only available after all the achievements were completed within the campaign period (see below for breakdown).
The campaign completed on March 15 (Pi Day, coincidentally) with 970 backers and $53,884 pledged.[4]
Achievements
The campaign has a unique way of unlocking extra rewards: different statistics and interactions throughout the campaign help "discover" elements, which feeds into a different reward tree that unlocks additional content that all backers receive.
A total of 118 elements are available to be discovered, and statistics such as number of total backers, number of Facebook 'likes', and aggregate followers on the team's social media accounts help reveal more content. If all 118 elements are 'discovered' every backer will receive: a special desktop wallpaper, a sticker, 18" x 24" (upgraded from 11" x 17") print of the Periodic Table, element-specific stickers for each notebook edition they order; and a special edition, Kickstarter-only pocket-sized notebook for the element 'Unobtainium'.
This achievement system is very rigorous, and for all of the tiers to be unlocked requires:
- 3,250 or more total backers;
- More than $200,000 pledged;
- 708 shares on Facebook and followers on Instagram;
- 826 'likes' on their Facebook page, followers of their Twitter account, retweets, and followers on their Instagram account (each).
- 25 people responding to 11 specific questions / actions on their social media (275 interactions);
- 5 people to complete (and document) a series of 15 challenges (75 interactions);
- and 3 people to complete (and document) a series of 15 experiments (45 interactions);
