==History==

==Material==
The WOPEX material consists of:
* [[Graphite]] / colour pigments: For the lead of the graphite or coloured pencils
* WPC (wood-plastic-composite): A composite consisting mainly of wood
* Special coating: In different colours for the surface of the pencil
Granulates of all components are processed in a manufacturing procedure. The pencil materials are melted at temperatures between 130 and 180°C, aligned by means of a tool and then moulded to a pencil shape. The initial outcome is an endless pencil strand which is cooled prior to cutting to the appropriate pencil length and then stamped and sharpened.<ref>{{cite web|url= https://www.staedtler.com/en/company/tradition-and-innovation/wopex-material/ |title= WOPEX Material - The Neon Line |site= Staedtler }}</ref>

==Naming==
Originally, WOPEX (Wood Pencil Extrusion) was used to describe pencils made from this material. [[Staedtler]] has changed the way it's using the term Wopex. Instead of calling the pencils Wopex the term is now only used to describe the material these pencils are made from. This started in 2015 and by now you won't find any pencils called Wopex anymore on the German Staedtler web site. Instead these pencils are sold as the Noris eco or as the Staedtler 180 ((From the beginning '180' were the first digits of the Wopex article numbers.)). In other markets, mainly South Africa, you can also get the Tradition eco.

Outside Germany you can however still find pencils with the Wopex label printed on them. In the UK there are quite a few of those sets left.
