== Uniball Pens == '''Brad Dowdy:''' It's insane. It is absolutely insane. Like what has happened? Like that's an entire podcast. Yeah. It just, it makes no sense to me. But shout out Uniball. That gives them the opportunity to make these and not products, right? Yep. I like that. If that's what the Zento's bringing me, bring it on. '''Myke Hurley:''' Shout out Jacob too. '''Brad Dowdy:''' Yeah. Shout out Jacob. He's done a great job with the video. He's like, I like that he's leaned into the short video format. He does an exceptional job. Yes. As opposed to like the podcasting and the blog posts. He's really good at the short video format. Like these are all like three and five minute videos. They're beautiful. He's so good. So good. All right. This is Japan related, Myke. Okay. A friend of the show, Josh, lives in Japan as a, he makes his own pens. It's called Matome Collection. He has sent in feedback on different things in the past for the show. That's always been very helpful. And he wanted to send me one of his pens and he did. So this is, Matome Collection is the name of the company. And the model of the pen that he sent me is Ikimashio. And it's a kind of a long, short pen, right? It's like a Kaweco sport in that it's short when it's capped, but it's full size, you know, when you post it. And it's so interestingly done. So think of him as just like, like the traditional makers that we talk about in the U.S. making, you know, acrylic pens, ebonite pens. He's a small maker making his own materials and turning his own pens. So what kind of enamored me about this is not just the shape of this pen, which I'll get into. It's called a pocket pen, but it's, you know, obviously full size when you write with it. It's tiny. Is that he did something. And if you look at the pictures on the Ikimashio pocket pen, you can't even see it on the barrel unless you look really closely. The back end of the barrel has like a half depth threading for the cap to post securely on the back. And it, I, I'm like, it works so well. Like you don't have these big chunky threads to attach the pen on the back of the pen, but it's this subtle look. And it kind of fits with the aesthetic of the pen because like there's some translucency in the barrel. You can see some other threading. And I don't know, it's just very smooth, but tactile. It's very interesting in how it works and it works super well. It attaches just like instantly. You don't have to mess or fidget with it. And then the one he sent me, again, I got this sent for free. So, you know, take my, take my words for, for what they are. But the material that he used, let me pull up the link here. '''Brad Dowdy:''' For this particular model that I have. And I think the, he did a series called Craft Indigo. So there's a black one and a blue one. And he basically uses, there's this indigo dye that he's able to acquire from a manufacturer there. And then hand grinds the dye and makes them into these acrylics. And so you're having some of this, you know, historic Japanese indigo material used for the coloration of this. And you can actually see some of the pigments still in it, right? It's pretty hard to see. You have to look really closely. But you can see a dot or a spec every now and then. And it's a, that's a feature, right? I think it's cool because, I mean, I'm very much into like the Japanese aesthetic and the Japanese history and things like that. So I've just, I've used this pen for a few days. It's really good. I just, I just wanted to give a shout out, you know, to Josh for sending me this pen. And I'm very happy with it. You're going to be seeing this pen a lot. And I will definitely do a review on this because I think it's unique. It's unique in shape and material and story. And that's the things that I like about products. That's kind of like the Uniball and not, right? Shape, material, story. Yeah. All kinds of different things. That's what gets me. Yep. So last one. I just unboxed this yesterday and I've been, this is a very, going from these first two pens to this pens is kind of like whiplash a little bit. This is the Kino Stay.Chenary 001 Serenity Fountain Pen. Is that how you should say it, Myke? Why are we doing this? '''Myke Hurley:''' Can you stay, can you stay, can you stay, can you? '''Brad Dowdy:''' Why are we doing it? Why am I this, why am I, why am I this way? Why am I this way, Myke? I have nothing on this one. This is just not great. Like, help me help you, dominant industry. So this is a dominant industry product. So we know dominant industry from their inks and their ink products. Um, and they've decided to make some pens to go along with this, but they've, again, like Uniball previously, Kino is their pen brand, I'm guessing. Right. Dominant industry is the ink, but that's who makes the Kino Stay.Chenary, uh, pen series. So this is the second one. I bought the second one. There's a, um, there's one that's a kind of a pink, um, themed. And this is very, uh, speaking of influencer pens, this is an influencer pen, right? It's, it's detailed to the hilt in the aesthetically visual pleasing, depending on your style way. Right. It's a very, you know, lots of little details in the cap and the finial and the clip and the cap bands. And everything is, has a little bit of extra everywhere across the product. So I've been wanting one to try just to see, is it a good product? Because these days it's at a decent price point. They're like 120 bucks. So, and they're going to be seen a lot because of their visual appeal. '''Brad Dowdy:''' So I always feel like my job is to say, is this a good pen? Right. Regardless of whether you like the style or not, you might love it. You might hate it. But if you're interested in it, is it good? So like the jury's still out, right? I've literally had it for a day. So I can't tell you that. I can say it's been great so far. Right. I got an extra fine steel nib. The steel nib is glorious. The extra fine is like very extra fine. So it's like, that's all I need to make me happy. It is to have like a really killer extra fine nib on there. And this one does. So to be determined as I use it, but this is just one of these in this grouping of products that is kind of like at my forefront of using, testing, thinking about, learning about, and sharing with y'all. So this is, I like talking about the things that are just landing on my desk because I try not to just go jump right into a review. Like I just got this pen. And I'm not going to have a review out by next week. I want to keep using it and carrying it. Like that's what, with all these pens and products, try to use them for a little bit and see if I'm missing something. But my first thoughts are good. I haven't really seen, I've seen a lot of people talking about these. I haven't seen a lot of like particular reviews on these, even though this is the second, the second one out. So I think, yeah, pretty good. Like I, for like what they're doing, like I get it. Like it's very, like the packaging mic is like super detailed. Like it comes with like, you know, those, the classic motel key chain, like the diamond shape. Like, you know what I'm talking about. It's not a diamond, but you know what I'm talking about. Like it comes with one of those. It's got like room number zero zero one on it. Myke, you know, I should hook that key chain to my uni and not. '''Myke Hurley:''' There you go. '''Brad Dowdy:''' Yeah. That'll fit there. All right. '''Myke Hurley:''' You just make it a collection of brands that confuse and upset you. '''Brad Dowdy:''' Yeah. I'm not upset. I was confused there. '''Myke Hurley:''' You're not happy about the names of either of them. '''Brad Dowdy:''' I mean, let's be honest. Stay.Shenary. That's a crime. Way worse than and not. '''Myke Hurley:''' I think and not is fine. Kenyo Stay.Shenary.001 Serenity is not, that's just not happening for me. I'm afraid. '''Brad Dowdy:''' So now I have to go learn why it's named this way because I clearly screwed up the and not thing. Yeah. '''Myke Hurley:''' There's a reason. You just need to find it investigative reporting style. '''Brad Dowdy:''' Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. You know me. '''Myke Hurley:''' Can you do that for us? '''Brad Dowdy:''' Yeah. I'll work on that. Thank you. I'll work on that. So, yeah. So all these pins, I'm pretty excited about like thinking about and using and eventually we'll do some reviews and we'll do a follow-up once I post these reviews. But like all three of these products I'm going to review at some point in, you know, in the coming months. So it's nice to have really interesting stuff across your desk, which is really not a problem around here. Speaking of interesting stuff, Myke. Yes.
