== Retro 51 Pens == '''Myke Hurley:''' Talking about the best in a series. Now, I may be going to make a bold claim here that I think I can back up. I think I feel pretty confident in this claim. But, you know, like time helps clear up these things. And it may be a too short time period. But I'm just going to go ahead and say it. I got both of the Bioworks Retro 51s. Right. I bought them. I have numbers 120 of both of them. We were talking about this for a while ago. A couple of weeks ago. This is the Vaness Artist Edition. It's the second in the artist series. And they worked with Bioworks, friend of the show, Ben. And they produced a set of two Retro 51s. One is blue and red. One is orange and turquoise. And it features these like owls, right? Like something like owls flying around. Yeah. '''Brad Dowdy:''' He calls that type of work like an ornate animal. So this would be an ornate owl. So there's, you know, other ornate in the ornate series. The ornate elephant was his first that really blew up. '''Myke Hurley:''' I think these are the most beautiful Retro 51s I've ever seen. '''Brad Dowdy:''' Yeah. Yeah. You're not going to get any argument from me. '''Myke Hurley:''' They are stunning. They are stunning. They look so good. The colors are so amazing. And the owls are like, it's a relief on top of the pen, right? Like there's a ridge. They're raised. My gosh. They are just absolutely unbelievable. There are still some of these available. I don't know why. At Van Espen's, you can get the set still, which I thoroughly recommend. Yeah. That's what I got too. Or you can get the blue and red. They're still available. '''Myke Hurley:''' The orange and turquoise are sold out. I think the orange and turquoise is the better of the two colors. So if you still want to get that one, then you should get the set still. And it comes with art. '''Brad Dowdy:''' The blue and red is the one that comes with the artwork. So it's more expensive to begin with. Ah, okay. That's the price point. They don't both come with Ben's signed artwork. The blue and red one does. And it's 20 bucks more. '''Myke Hurley:''' Yep. Okay. But get either of them. Get both of them. You really should. If you like Retro 51s, even just a tiny percentage of the amount that I do, you're going to go crazy for these. Because they are absolutely gorgeous. They are so good looking, Brad. I'm dying. They're so good. My gosh. Love them. Absolutely love them. Love them. '''Brad Dowdy:''' Yep. Yep. So something else I love. '''Brad Dowdy:''' I haven't seen this. I don't love this pen, but I love the video of the Eureka pen on Kickstarter. And I'm not sure how many people have seen this. But if you haven't, you need to watch this. You might need some alone time during or after you watch it. It's like a five or six minute video. It's the most amazing Kickstarter pen video I've ever seen. You'll just have to watch it to live it yourself. Our friend Harry Marks sent this to me. And he was like, have you seen? He didn't say, did you see this pen? '''Myke Hurley:''' What is going on here? I'm just like clicking through the video. '''Brad Dowdy:''' Well, you just have to listen to him. '''Brad Dowdy:''' The pictures and the project are amazing. Everything about this thing is amazing, except the pen. I have no, I don't, I have no desire for this pen. I'm not going to back the project. But just watch it and tell me you don't just come away amazed by the video. My world. '''Myke Hurley:''' Yeah. Okay. No spoilers, right? Like no spoilers. '''Brad Dowdy:''' And really nothing to say about this project. I mean, back it if you want. I mean, I have no interest in the pen, but just the video and the photography and the story of this pen are absolutely amazing. And it's, it's basically must see TV for anyone interested in, in pens and stationary. You have to see this. So we'll, we'll leave it at that. I just wanted to drop that in there real quick on you because it definitely blew my mind. Last thing for, well, not even the last thing for the new items, but one of the many more new items. I just noticed this morning when I was scrolling through Twitter that Edison pen company has a new filling mechanism. And what's interesting about this one is that it's called the draw filler. So it's essentially kind of like a push button vacuumatic type of filler. You push the button, it draws up ink and you keep pushing and then it draws it up till it's full. It's a very cool, very simple system. What's interesting is none of the existing pens come. It's not a, he didn't make a new model of pen, but you can choose any of the existing pens and have used this filling system added to that pen. '''Brad Dowdy:''' And it was made to solve a problem that I've seen with my Menlo. The Menlo has a latex kind of seal on where the pump is and it's not great. I've had problems with it. Mine started leaking recently. Brian knows it's a problem. So this one uses a different materials. It's got these, it's, you can go read. We'll put the link in the show notes. Brian has the details on, on why this is not going to get damaged like this latex system used in the pump filler and it looks fantastic. You know, I'll have to eyeball these when I see them in DC, see if that's something that I want to get because I like that type of filling system. It's very simple, but works well. '''Myke Hurley:''' I want to see if I can have my pen changed. Do you reckon that's possible? Oh, I don't know. So that's a great question though. Because I love my Edison, but it leaks on me now and it leaks from the side that it shouldn't leak from, right? Right. It's leaking from the back, which is not a place. If your pen is leaking from the back, that's a problem with your pen and mine has been. So there is an issue with my Menlo and it would be kind of nice to have it changed. '''Brad Dowdy:''' But that's a great question. I mean, I can't answer that obviously, but looking at it, it looks really close. Like he has it pictured in what looks like a Menlo shape barrel. Yeah. So maybe the dimensions can be retrofitted into that exact new system because I would vote for that too. This is definitely like, looks like the replacement for the Menlo pump. Yeah. And it looks much simpler and much better. So it's very cool. I look forward to seeing these pens because I love that shape and design of the Menlo and it'd be cool. Like I love the Beaumont. I would like to see maybe a Beaumont with that filling system in it or something like that. And he also released new Perlet colors of the, what does he call it? The production lineup that the vendors will carry. So there's three new colors of Perlet as well. If you haven't seen those Sonoran sunset, Azure skies and Canyon trail all based on a Arizona desert theme. So it's fantastic. They look great. So if you've been looking for new stuff from Edison, they've been a little bit quiet for a while, but I know it's only because they're so busy. Here's working on some cool stuff. That's fine. Yeah. Working on some cool stuff. So always Brian's always got something cool up his sleeve. So, and I like that he keeps messing with filling systems because you know what? It's not easy. He takes a risk when he does something like the Menlo. That's a massive risk for him because no one makes these in a modern pen these days. So it's very cool. It's cool to see him playing and experimenting like this. And I'm happy to support him while he does that.
