== Childhood memories of school supplies == '''Derek DeWeese:''' Kindergarten and pencil boxes. Oh, yeah. You had to go into the school store, spend your nickel or your quarter, and get the pencils and the pencil box and the crayons. So, long-time stationery person before I realized that it was stationery. I just wanted the pencils. You know, that's what everybody else was doing. In the modern instance, was always particular, like, through high school, I was a big Precise V5 guy or a Zebra 501. You know, kind of the pen that was utilitarian, but also it wrote well. And then 2013, I'd started journaling. And as parents were looking to relocate from Texas to Georgia, all the stuff kind of started showing up at my house that used to be mine. And in a desk drawer, it was one of theirs, a fountain pen. So, I found this in a drawer, and I was like, hey, that's kind of cool. Let me see if I can get this thing working. So, I post a picture on Facebook, and my college roommate, who we had never talked about pens, him and his wife, who I had introduced them, they had both become collectors. So, they're collecting. They're like, oh, you have that. You should come visit in Memphis, and we'll take you to this pen store. So, I go out one weekend between Christmas and New Year's to Memphis, and then this Saturday, we go to Van Ness. And that just started a downhill spiral. I'm left with a sailor, 1911 Black Luster, my Ackerman No. 5. I bought a Waterman thereafter. I bought a couple other things. So, it just started off in a downward spiral in a great way. '''Brad Dowdy:''' Yeah, that's, I mean this in the nicest way possible. Van Ness is the worst place to show up if you're just starting to figure this thing out, because you're going to get got like you got. Which is great. In the end, it's great. But, like, that is the literal kid in a candy store, like, problem, right? '''Derek DeWeese:''' I remember Myke talking through and showing me different pens in the cases, because I'm sitting here like, oh, my gosh. What are all these, more pens and brands than I had never, I'd never heard of a sailor pen. But, of course, I was leaving with the all blacked out one. Yeah. And that was a foregone conclusion. '''Derek DeWeese:''' But, no, it was a good thing.
