Speaker 0: What a stub never be appropriate for an architect who only uses block lettering and office what about an architect knew Brian this is from sack magpie on.

Speaker 1: Twitter.

Speaker 0: So.

Speaker 0: I think the stuff that would be really good I think it might even be preferable.

Speaker 1: Arm.

Speaker 0: The architect knew from the times that I've used it has been hit or miss a little bit in the angle that you hold the pen it's a little bit more finicky than a stop it's not a straight forward because it's exactly ninety degrees.

Speaker 1: Angle change.

Speaker 0: In how you write.

Speaker 0: The output.

Speaker 0: Might be better.

Speaker 0: It's getting used to writing with it that would be the challenge that output might be more directly you know drafting engineering architect related and it it's funny that we help the soft ought to this week our friend Mike Dudek we already.

Speaker 0: Talked about just got his vanishing point with an architect and he made it look spectacular so now I'm gonna have to get one of these and I'm already talking to a Dan Smith who did.

Speaker 0: Did Mike snip grind on his vanishing point.

Speaker 1: The.

Speaker 0: Results look spectacular so I'm picking out a pen now and I'm gonna get this done just because I've seen it so many times I have the same hand writing style is might do that so I think it would work well for me I've just you know just one of those it's just one more thing do I need and I think I'm finally ready to make the jump to jump and get me up architect nearby grind.

Speaker 1: People going crazy over these in Atlanta.

Speaker 0: Yeah.

Speaker 0: Jeff has one arm.

Speaker 1: Dot is alive today be set it for a moment see on the was doing it.

Speaker 1: Because he he had to go there was some baby related things.

Speaker 0: Yeah exactly and then two or three other people got them done while we were sitting there at the show from Mike Massey on because we were like catty corner from Mike's week we could see him going and now people are telling us what they were getting done and must be on even said a thing he's said something to the result of look what you guys did that kind of thing.

Speaker 0: And so it was kind of funny but.

Speaker 0: Would it be appropriate for an architect.

Speaker 0: I mean.

Speaker 0: By the sounds of it you think would be ideal but I think it's a real shame.

Speaker 0: I want to say it's almost unnatural in the way he right with it you have to get used to it so I almost think I stubbed it would be a little bit better to be perfectly honest with you arm you can get or curse metallic now being at the same.

Speaker 0: Style of writing on the lines with Mrs will just be opposite from each other.

Speaker 0: All right.

Speaker 0: Just in our band and says I'd love some show content about buying things online without testing or sampling products compared with a shop front.

Speaker 0: That's actually a really good question.

Speaker 1: Yeah I don't know if you have spoken about this before.

Speaker 0: Yeah.

Speaker 0: And so you know I don't necessarily have the you know a black and white answer but it's kind of the reason why I started my blog right in your coming up in November I'll be doing this blog for eight years.

Speaker 0: And the reason I started putting this stuff online was I couldn't find those answers.

Speaker 1: Yeah.

Speaker 0: You know I was going through what.

Speaker 1: Justin.

Speaker 0: Is a seemingly going through now is like well I see all this stuff I don't know what's gonna work well for me.

Speaker 0: I mean I hate to say it but you can I gotta go through you can kind of read a lot online you to look at the all the pen blogs that have put our clothes lift for rated over the years arm you know look at a site like up in the quad who is.

Speaker 0: In Headley's kind of surprised aggregator for the Penn community.

Speaker 0: If you're thinking about a type of pen throw a search in there see all the pen blogs and reviewed it kind of get a feel and then like you'll hear from me who.

Speaker 0: Talks about okay I write in a print block style lettering these pens work well for me you know ana at well appointed desk is a lefty with a little bit of a hook these pens work good for her and you can kind of see who fits your style the best and then you can have a little bit more trust in what they're saying would might be a better fit for you and then you can try a couple things and find out for yourself there's so much content out there these days on and using a site like up in a call dot net to narrow it down you know pick one or two pens though in a search read some of the results and go from there there's no easy answer on but.

Speaker 0: The contents there and you know you just got to go out there and and read that.

Speaker 0: Our friend of Tony's going bring me from every day commentary yes can you compare the durability and fit and finish of an Edison to a twisty.

Speaker 0: This is a super interesting question.

Speaker 0: Because you cannot compare them.

Speaker 0: One iota.

Speaker 0: They are not even remotely similar pens and I say it's interesting because I actually think this is probably a common question that no one has asked why you know why isn't Edison in you know one hundred forty dollars in my the twist began.

Speaker 1: You know.

Speaker 0: Sixty dollars and you know it's not a surprise but what makes twist be this and what makes it is and what it is.

Speaker 0: The Edison they're all hand made intern machine turn you know with them Brian grazer skills the acrylics are really nice that he uses to is B. as more of a machine plastic barrel pen there really so different.

Speaker 0: The only thing that's even close would be the nebs arm because I thought they might both use Joe Williams I'm thinking which is.

Speaker 0: Which works because that's probably one of my favorite steel nibs but.

Speaker 0: When you're talking about comparing a cross pen brands it sometimes get tough it gets tough like I think you can compare like.

Speaker 0: Sailor.

Speaker 0: Pilot and platinum.

Speaker 0: They were all built around the same time they're all have the same legacy they all have kind of the same line up of pens with starting at entry level and graduating up the same steps can have the same features but then when you get to something more.

Speaker 0: Custom Mike Edison it doesn't compare to anything like a two is being at all in I don't know that that answers your question Tony and we can elaborate on this more and you know.

Speaker 0: You know maybe I can do some.

Speaker 1: Some.

Speaker 0: Pros and cons of Edison and pros and cons of a twist be one day but they are so different there's not one thing that compares and they're both good in their own right.

Speaker 0: Yeah yes about durability I mean.

Speaker 0: With bees have more.

Speaker 0: Durability problems they also cost half as much.

Speaker 1: Yeah.

Speaker 0: It's.

Speaker 0: It's really impossible to make that kind of comparison at all.

Speaker 1: If you now owe a pen company to be reputable right so if we talk about them on the show in favorable terms then you can really only compare pens that are in the same price bracket like you could compare please be online me.

Speaker 1: For example them all it because they have relatively close in price in some instances you could make the comparison between the two of them about what you prefer but when you look at something like an Edison it's you calm compared to his be in Edison together because Edison pens a way better.

Speaker 1: Like material wise durability wise feel and fit and finish and everything about them really you know that they've got more hot most sold so that you can feel if you specially if you know the story.

Speaker 1: But the reason for that is because it costs like two three four times as much.

Speaker 0: Right.

Speaker 1: So you get what you pay full.

Speaker 0: Exactly.

Speaker 0: Exactly so here's a question I have that comes up a lot and I actually had it in my inbox.

Speaker 0: Home from a different a listener arm on the same type of problem.

Speaker 0: B. do have.

Speaker 0: On Twitter says why is it hard to find five by eight paper I have a portfolio of using but is too narrow for a five point eight seven five inch wide pad asked to be a.

Speaker 0: So my answer that I wrote in the show notes because the US is self important.

Speaker 0: And my meaning is the US does not.

Speaker 0: Conform to international paper standards which I think the entire rest of the world does except for the United States and I think it's one of the country.

Speaker 0: So when you hear us talking about paper sizes like a four a five a six.

Speaker 0: Those are going to be more common to find in your portfolio.

Speaker 0: Sizings as well because.

Speaker 0: Most of these products are getting made outside of the US.

Speaker 0: So.

Speaker 0: You have a hard time finding it because there's very few US paper many factors that are making good stuff.

Speaker 1:

Speaker 0: In five by eight so.

Speaker 0: You know look at the state knows from like field notes or down paper or right note pads on they might do five by eight when Jeff and I decided to make the steno pad for knock we decided to go with the international standard so either a five so it's got that little bit different dimensions so.

Speaker 0: The question I had my email was basically the same thing but substitute five by seven arm and that's even more difficult to find than five by five eight you can get a lot closer than a five by seven so anyway it it's because the US thinks they're right and measurements.

Speaker 0: Arm when they're actually wrong across the board on their measurement standards.

Speaker 0: And I'll get a lot of hate mail from.

Speaker 0: So what you save me Mike.

Speaker 1: Yeah this is a good idea to take a break.

Speaker 0: Okay.

Speaker 0: Right Mike so this next little bit is what we had to cut out the ASCA TP a from last episode because I figured it it might result in a fight and it very well might so our our good friend John be missed at J. tower forty two he says the.

Speaker 0: This is actually directed at you says as a guy who uses fountain pens and field notes to any additions hold up particularly well.

Speaker 1: That.

Speaker 0: Aren't.

Speaker 0: America the beautiful traveling salesman aw workshop companion or shelter would.

Speaker 0: What say you.

Speaker 1: Says is a really difficult question because different people are.

Speaker 1: They are.

Speaker 1: Sensitive in different ways.

Speaker 1: To where the stuff works so I know that there are people that don't like the way the field notes performs in the way that found offense perform in field notes notebooks they are way better than the ones at the thick paper.

Speaker 1: That is just a fact to think of the paper a fountain pen will perform on belief for but the thing is like I find the sort of watch as I love the thick a paper thicker ones because of that I find the thing of papers to be softer fountain pens so it feels better in a different way.

Speaker 1: I think that a field notes notebook any of them with fountain pens except for like the specialty papers like the expedition addition a lot of a.

Speaker 1: They are perfectly adequate.

Speaker 1: And all I like to use them and love to use them so much because I love everything about the company so I find that paper quality to be good.

Speaker 1: Enough with fountain pens in some instances great but I think that it's better than some of the other stuff that I've used but there's so many other reasons for me much I love them like I said before like I love the portability of the design.

Speaker 1: I love that they always open flat when I want them to write like this just these little things about it that I really love about fitness and your mileage may vary on how you feel the fountain pen will work in them but whatever I found in using medium that fountain pens with reasonably good drying ink with any field notes is even with bleed through you can use them on both sides because I have and have done for years like I just have done that like it is not impossible that perfectly good and and I think that if you enjoy them if you like them then you should get them like I do and I'm very happy and continue to use fountain pens with my fitness level.

Speaker 0: You answer that wonderfully I can't even fight with you on that that was it excellent answer and to your point this is what we discussed up top with the barren fig you're gonna fought there's.

Speaker 0: You're gonna have to find the right fit for the nine seventy pound paper field notes.

Speaker 0: In which I have found in some of mine like I remember using a private public finance like Japanese find jobs and a good drawing.

Speaker 1: I.

Speaker 0: Generally have really good success with those in the non thicker paper workshop opinion I think out even the thicker paper when someone's been far and away the best one of four found paintings I really enjoyed writing and fountain pens and that one.

Speaker 0: But yeah I you know there's no particular addition most of the papers the same and all the other additions.

Speaker 0: So it's more than the pen and ink choice and it can be found and I also go back to our friend of the show doing lively made a post one time and I'll have to go find it for the show notes but I I refer to it frequently was basically about.

Speaker 0: Owning.

Speaker 0: The like the show through on the paper.

Speaker 0: Like that's part of the experience right you're putting your eyes ideas down.

Speaker 0: Worry about your ideas that you're putting down on the paper not.

Speaker 0: What's going on on the paper itself.

Speaker 0: You know it embrace embrace the bleed embrace the feathering and you know just when you're done with it look at it you know as a big picture thing and you know love what you've created and it's a relevant how all this stuff performed on there and there's a really good post that he wrote so we'll try to find that for the shin.

Speaker 1: What website was that.

Speaker 0:

Speaker 0: Gosh I forget the name of his website but it's I can find it yes I've got it saved us somewhere but it's a.

Speaker 0: Whatever a mere bladder is the website someone will find it afterwards.

Speaker 0: And doing my my tweet to me on a few listens he might be asleep he saw is a Hong Kong or some or any I'm sorry he's a Japan or he's over in Japan so he might be asleep right now alright last I asked to be a in this is rolls into a topic I wanted to discuss anyway it's concerning the DC prints out.

Speaker 0: So eagle eagle geek says do you recommend weekend trader passes are just Saturday Sunday for the DC pen show and then also more generally can the general public get in on Thursday and Friday DEC pensions website is less than helpful so let's talk about this schedule wise the DC pen show.

Speaker 0: Runs.

Speaker 0: Friday Saturday Sunday.

Speaker 0: Friday is trader only that doesn't mean the public can't get in it means you have to purchase the more expensive trader pass.

Speaker 0: So for the Friday Saturday Sunday past its forty five dollars for the three days.

Speaker 0: And you get in Friday ahead of the public routes.

Speaker 0: And talking with Lisa van **** who has been schooling me on all things DC pen show she says it's really good to go on Friday because it's that's where most of the.

Speaker 0: The opinions a lot of pens are changing hands those days just because traders are getting around its global quieter on the show floor you know lots of good stuff is happening but the good stuff is available on Friday.

Speaker 0: Saturday and Sunday tickets are seven dollars each day that's just general public admission those days are Lisa says packed to the walls like line to get in to the.

Speaker 0: Event like you know just hundreds of people waiting to get in and super crowded.

Speaker 0: So is it worth it to you by the traitor pass that's totally up to you.

Speaker 1: Bomb.

Speaker 0: You know it is much more expensive you you would pay.

Speaker 0: Those fourteen so it's thirty what basically if you're going Saturday and Sunday you're basically paying thirty one dollars for Friday on the free on Saturday and Sunday as well.

Speaker 0: On an.

Speaker 0: Friday evening.

Speaker 0: We're gonna have a pen attic meet up at the show.

Speaker 0: And I'm working with the promoter right now.

Speaker 0: To get one of the ballrooms.

Speaker 0: At the hotel so we don't have to do anything off site which is good we're looking at beverage selections that hopefully we're working to see if we can get someone to provide them but this is going to be.

Speaker 0: It's not yet finalized but it's going to be kind of on the show events calendar so I hope everyone he's planning to come to the DC Pinchot can make it Friday evening I don't have the time in the full details yet hopefully have that solved this week it's gonna be kind of a big deal we're trying to get a lot of people to come on I know a lot of people are traveling to the show on a lot of our friends from the Atlanta Pinchot Mike are going to be making the show and hope everyone can make it Friday night it's going to be a blast it's going to be a big event arm.

Speaker 0: And I don't know I don't have any like extras planned right now you know there's no podcaster video or thing going on.

Speaker 1: I'm not gonna be that.

Speaker 0: Just yeah might not to be there.

Speaker 1: Solution on.

Speaker 0: But it's going to be I think pretty large and pretty fun so.

Speaker 0: Yeah I I think it's gonna be good so have put that on your pen show calendar if you're coming to DC Friday night at the hotel there will be a pen attic meet up and will have more details as I get them so off working on finalizing that.

Speaker 1: If you miss that lantern and you can make this make this yeah.

Speaker 0: You really really should it was a real special experience.

Speaker 0: And I am glad that we can kind of repeat it so soon it's gonna be great is gonna be really good now she could be there and I know everyone this.

Speaker 0: Yeah there's always next year.

Speaker 1: Yet.

Speaker 0: All right.
